Walk for Kids Information - 2008

The purpose of the walk is twofold.  The first is to raise funds to continue the work of OPEN M’s
mission for children.  The second is to raise awareness of the OPEN M Neighborhood Center and
the wonderful work that goes on here.

Walkers start from Canal Place (Spaghetti Warehouse’s parking lot -  located on 510 S. Main
Street) and walk 1.5 miles to the OPEN M Neighborhood Center, supervised by the Akron City
Police Department.

Each team has a Team Captain who recruits other team members.  Most teams average $100 a
walker ($10.00 from ten different individuals).

Teams can consist of:
  • church members
  • youth groups
  • men’s/women’s groups
  • service organizations
  • co-workers
  • school organizations
  • sports teams
  • families
  • friends / neighbors

Once you reach the OPEN M Neighborhood Center there will be live entertainment with
refreshments (hot dogs, chips and beverages).  While you are here you can tour the
Neighborhood Center and meet the staff.  When you are ready to leave shuttle buses will return
you to the parking lot at Canal Place.
